Anthony’s Restaurants has been serving the Pacific Northwest for more than 50 years, with 26 locations across the region. As the restaurant group moved to a more streamlined tip process, it needed a way to automate the manual work behind daily tip payouts while giving employees faster access to their earned tips. With TipHaus and Earned Tip Access®, Anthony’s replaced paper-based tip calculations with automated daily tip processing, putting more than 1,180 hours previously spent on manual tip paperwork back into restaurant operations every month while giving employees access to their tips the next day.

Anthony’s relied on a manual tip process that required employees to complete paper checkouts and bookkeepers to review each location’s tip calculations. As Anthony’s moved toward daily tip payouts, it needed a more automated process that could keep up with daily reviews while giving employees faster access to their earnings.
Anthony’s implemented TipHaus and Earned Tip Access® to automate tip calculations, streamline daily reviews, and provide employees with next-day access to their earned tips. The flexibility of TipHaus also allowed Anthony’s to maintain consistent tip practices across 26 locations while accounting for different states, concepts, and roles.

Anthony’s Restaurants has been part of the Pacific Northwest restaurant community for more than 50 years and operates 26 locations.
Aimee Ketola, Director of Accounting & Information Systems, knows the business from both sides of the operation. She started at Anthony’s as a college student, working as a server before moving into accounting and information systems.
That firsthand restaurant experience shaped how she evaluated technology: the system needed to work for the people using it in the restaurant, while also making the accounting and payroll process easier behind the scenes.
Before TipHaus, Anthony’s had an internally developed system that had worked for the organization for years, but the tip process still required significant manual work.
At the end of every shift, servers and bartenders completed a hard-copy server checkout, spending approximately 8–9 minutes working through the process. Bookkeepers then reviewed those checkouts to ensure tips were flowing correctly into payroll. Depending on the restaurant, season, and volume, that review could take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours.
Anthony’s also wanted to change how employees received their tips. As part of simplifying the checkout process, servers began turning in their cash sales rather than calculating what they kept at the end of each shift.
That created an important employee experience question: if employees were no longer leaving with cash tips, how could Anthony’s still give them faster access to the money they had earned?
Earned Tip Access® became a key part of the solution.
Anthony’s selected TipHaus after evaluating multiple platforms. One of the biggest differentiators was TipHaus’s configurability: Anthony’s could adapt the system to its existing operations rather than changing its processes to fit the software.
That flexibility was particularly important across 26 locations. Anthony’s wanted consistency in how employees were treated across the organization, while still being able to account for different state laws, multi-concept restaurants, and unique roles.
With TipHaus, the manual checkout and bookkeeping process was streamlined. Employees could complete their shift review and check out with their manager, while bookkeeping reviews that previously took 45 minutes to two hours could be completed in approximately two minutes.
Earned Tip Access® was especially important to the rollout. Because employees were now turning in their cash sales, Anthony’s could give them access to their earned tips the following day rather than making them wait for payroll. This also meant employees were no longer leaving the restaurant carrying as much cash late at night.
The move to daily tip payouts also changed the rhythm of payroll. Managers now review time and attendance every day, helping Anthony’s catch questions earlier and making the final two-week payroll review much faster.
Having Earned Tip Access, where they now have access to their tips the next day, was a really good trade-off for them. They’re not walking with as much cash, but they still have access to their tips quickly. That was a really nice option for the employees who want their tips sooner rather than waiting for payroll.
